On strategies: homeownership is not the be-all-end-all to building wealth and it does not automatically create positive pattern of behaviors. It appears to be a one time cost, at acquisition, and often, it seems, there is an ease of access to equity that can make appreciation a turnstile and may even deplete long-term growth. That is a "pay in once and get money out as needed" potential pitfall. Instead, encourage other true retirement planning designs, like creating mutual funds and employing dollar cost averaging. That is a "pay a little often and wait for it your golden years".
